Armidale

Located in the New England region of Northern New South Wales, Armidale is considered the most cosmopolitan NSW city outside of Sydney. Armidale is a sophisticated town surrounded by spectacular scenery and national parkland consisting of abundant rainforests, waterfalls, rivers and rare wildlife. It is also one of the few cities in Australia where you’ll experience the presence of four distinct seasons which is noticeable by its welcoming ‘autumn’ colours surrounding the city. Enjoy this spectacular season at the Autumn Festival celebration held in March each year, with a huge parade by community groups through the CBD and a fun day in Civic Park. A city with a truly international flavour due to the diversity of the students and academics at the university facility, Armidale has a rich history of settlement. The majestic national parks and World Heritage listed nature reserves located in the Armidale district are a great place for camping, bushwalking and picnicking. Be sure to visit the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park and explore the Wollomombi, Dangars and Gara Gorges – home to some of the most spectacular and highest waterfalls in Australia. Culture buffs can pay a visit to the New England Regional Art Museum, offering different exhibitions through the year as well as the famous Hinton and Coventry collections, or for those interested in the rich history of this region, there is a wide variety of local museums to visit. An Armidale City Heritage Tour is also a great way to explore the town. Experience the New England High Country life.
