Rex Airlines has been awarded South Pacific’s Best Cabin Service in the 2024 Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX) Awards.

The award was presented in Singapore where Rex’s Executive Chairman, Lim Kim Hai, accepted it on behalf of the airline.

The award ceremony was part of the FTE APEX Asia Expo, the air transport industry’s largest passenger experience and business performance event.

APEX said nearly one million flights were anonymously rated by passengers across more than 600 airlines from around the world using a five-star scale.

Commenting on Rex’s cabin service, Mr Lim said, “We pride ourselves on our warm, heartfelt country hospitality which sets us apart from all other airlines”.

“Our cabin crew exemplify this ethos, providing in-flight service which even other Australian carriers talk about.

“This award recognises their tremendous efforts put in everyday to exceed expectations in sometimes very difficult conditions and it is indeed gratifying to see our passengers acknowledging this spontaneously in the surveys.”

“I thank each and every one of our cabin crew for the outstanding job they do every single day.

“This prestigious award, coming closely on the heels of the other marquee awards like Skytrax award for Best Regional Airline Australia & Pacific and the Australian Aviation award for Airline of the Year, irrefutably demonstrates that there is only one national carrier where Australians can feel truly at home.” Mr Lim concluded.

Rex received the ‘Airline of the Year’ Award at the inaugural Australian Aviation Awards for 2022.

The prestigious award was presented at a Gala Dinner in Sydney in front of several hundred guests including many of the industry’s leading lights.

The judges recognised Rex’s resilience, adaptability, flexibility, innovation and growth whilst keeping regional towns and major cities connected during a time of unprecedented adversity in aviation, and that Rex has been able to not just survive, but thrive, where other airlines have failed.

Not only does the introduction of Rex’s domestic trunk services bring another competitor to Aussie skies, keeping fares low, but Rex also provides passengers seamless connectivity to its regional network. The airline’s renowned customer-focused hospitality has also proven a strong point of difference throughout the pandemic, and particularly now during the post-pandemic travel boom, particularly Rex’s industry-leading on-time performance.

Sustainability Award

Rex was awarded the title of “Sustainable Small Company of the Year 2007” on 30 November 2007 by Ethical Investor magazine at the 7th Australian Sustainability Awards. This award recognised Rex as a profitable, sustainable and reliable service provider, with the judges saying Rex had employed a community enterprise-based business model to re-open regional airline routes in partnership with local councils and communities. In addition, this award applauded the community support programs and levels of employee engagement evident at Rex, with a generous drought relief package and employee profit share scheme being deciding factors.
