Griffith

Griffith is well known for fine wines and good food. Griffith is today a thriving regional Centre, often referred to as an "oasis in the desert". This Burley Griffin designed town is the hub of the rich Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area and has been named the fastest growing inland city in Australia. Restaurants in the region have a reputation for creating rich flavours using the abundance of fresh produce from which local chefs are able to select. Visit Catania Fruit Salad Farm where Sharon and Joe Maugeri will treat you to an interesting tour of the farm to see the different fruits, nuts and vines grown, you will also learn how the irrigation is implemented onto the farm. You will be given the history of the area and join them in a taste of wine made by Joe and Sharon in the traditional Italian style, and can try some of the prunes and fruits in season. Treat your taste buds with a visit to Riverina Grove who specialise in a wonderful range of local products, plums in port, olives, tapenades, sun dried tomatoes, pasta sauces, jams and much more. Pioneer Park Museum is steps back in time, the largest museum this side of the mountains; you need at least a couple of hours to visit. There are over 40 historical buildings set in 11 hectares of natural bushland and an incredible collection of old machinery and memorabilia depicting the history of the area. The majestic Regional Theatre Curtain is an outstanding 12m x 5m soft sculpture constructed by over 300 local community members. There is also a wonderful photographic collection in the foyer of the Theatre including some of Burley Griffin’s early drawings. The regional Art Gallery is also worth checking out as some renowned exhibitions are often found in this wonderful Art Deco building. The Riverina is the ideal location to unwind and discover the natural and relaxed feel of the country. This is a region for people to discover contemporary rural Australia. Useful Links
