Orange

Orange is the centre of the rich central west of NSW – a district offering a diverse range of experiences including food and wine, history and heritage, gold and mining and natural beauty. The Orange Region is a playground in which to discover wonderful natural attractions, experience delicious food and wine, immerse yourself in the areas rich history and heritage, or simply escape and relax. With fertile volcanic soils and mild climate, the region has the perfect conditions to produce prime produce, including fish, venison, grain fed beef, fat lambs, grapes, apples, berries, stone fruits and nuts. These products are showcased each year at the F.O.O.D (Food of the Orange District) Festival, which happens annually in April. Autumn is regarded as the best time of the year to visit Orange as the city’s 100 parks and gardens change from green to red, gold and yellow. Orange is known as Australia’s Colour City, due to it’s four distinct seasons. At any time during the year, the city streets are a kaleidoscope of colours and gorgeous scenery for visitors to experience. Take a ‘Heritage Trail’ journey, enjoy active or passive recreation at Lake Canobolas or go gold panning at Ophir where the gold for the Sydney Olympic medals was mined. And don’t forget to call at the beautiful Orange Regional Gallery, showing quality exhibitions from all over the world. Orange has something for everyone – a walk through the avenues, lunch at a delicious eatery, galleries for the culture lovers and boutiques. Orange is also a town for history lovers. With buildings and streetscapes reflecting the rich heritage of the area, residents have lovingly restored the buildings and other historic places of interest.
