Power Banks and Spare Batteries

Use of Power Banks

Power banks must not be used at any time while on-board a Rex aircraft.

Throughout the duration of your flight, power banks and external spare batteries must remain switched off, disconnected, and stored individually in a protected manner.

Carrying Power Banks and spare batteries

Power banks and external spare batteries must be packed in carry-on baggage only.

Each passenger can carry no more than two power banks or 20 spare batteries in total. Any bag containing a power bank or spare batteries must be placed under the seat in front of you. Alternatively, a power bank or spare batteries can be removed from your carry-on baggage and placed in your seat pocket.

Bags containing power banks and spare batteries must not be stowed in the overhead locker.

For more information, please visit the Batteries – spare/loose and power banks section on our Dangerous Goods Page.

Please also refer to the CASA and IATA websites for guidance on safely packing and travelling with lithium battery-powered devices.

Smart luggage

If you intend to check-in a bag containing a built-in power bank, the power bank must be removed prior to checking in your bag and carried within your carry-on baggage.

Baggage without removable built-in batteries are not permitted to be checked in for any Rex service.

Baggage with built-in electronic bag tags or locks powered by button cells or alkaline batteries can continue to be checked-in.

Gate Baggage

If your carry-on baggage needs to be checked at the gate, our crew will ask you to remove any power banks or spare batteries before your bag is loaded. You can store these items with you in your seat pocket for the duration of the flight.

Damaged Batteries and Devices

Damaged, swollen or leaking batteries of any kind are not permitted to be taken on-board a Rex aircraft.

If your device becomes hot, damaged or starts smoking while on board, switch it off if possible and notify the cabin crew immediately. Do not attempt to cool, move, or handle the device yourself. Our crew are trained to manage battery-related incidents safely.
