Rex Launches Sale with No Christmas Blackout Period

In an unprecedented move Rex today announced a raft of sale fares with no Christmas holiday blackout dates to celebrate the re-opening of its domestic network from November 15. The domestic network-wide sale with no Christmas black out period also extends to regional holiday destinations as the airline ramps up NSW intrastate flying.

In the light of the current rate of infection, the announced intentions of the various State Governments concerning lockdowns and border closures and the need for lead time for advanced ticket sales, Rex today announced that it is left with no option but to extend the suspension of its domestic services and reduction of regional services up until 31 October 2021. This will also mean an extension of the stand down period for staff up until this time.

Rex Moves To Make Vaccinations Mandatory For Frontline Staff

Rex said today all of the airline’s frontline, customer-facing staff would be required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by 1 November 2021, the first Australian airline to achieve that goal. This would include company employees working at check-in and all pilots and cabin crew across its regional and domestic networks. Passengers on Rex flights can be reassured that the compulsory staff vaccination policy will mean that they will be travelling in the safest possible circumstances. .

The Regional Express (Rex) Group today released its preliminary final report announcing a statutory Profit Before Tax (PBT) loss of $7.2 million (M). The Underlying Loss Before Tax is $18.4M after excluding mark-to-market adjustments related to the funding agreement entered into with PAG. Revenue was down 20% to $256.2M from $321.8M in the prior year.

Rex announced today reductions in services to cities and regional communities that are affected by extensive State border closures and/or lockdowns. Domestic and Regional routes on Rex’s network in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Queensland and Tasmania will be either temporarily suspended or greatly reduced until the end of the State Government imposed border closures and/or lockdowns. Affected passengers who booked directly with Rex can go online to Rex’s COVID Refund Portal. The automated portal will refund all eligible tickets and the money will be returned to the original form of payment within a few days. Customers who booked through a travel agent can still log on to our COVID Refund Portal for instructions on how to expedite a refund through the travel agents.

Rex today announced the acquisition of a Boeing 737 Full Flight Simulator (B737 FFS) from Boeing US Training & Flight Services L.L.C. The B737 FFS satisfies the Qualification Level D requirements promulgated by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and will be used for type ratings, recurrent training and proficiency checks. It is also certified for Upset Recovery Training (UPRT) and can be configured for a number of variants of the B737, including B737-800, B737-700 and B737 Boeing Business Jet (BBJ).
