Rex Flies to the Snowy
Thursday, March 24, 2005

Regional Express (Rex), Australia’s largest independent regional airline today announced it
will commence regular air services between Sydney and the Snowy Mountains (Cooma) on
Friday 10 June.
Rex’s Managing Director, Geoff Breust, said he was delighted that Rex was continuing to
expand its services to regional Australia.
“Our initiative brings air services back to the Snowy Mountains after an extended period. Rex
will commence with a daily service Sunday to Friday with a 34 seat Saab 340 aircraft, ramping
up to twelve return services per week during the peak snow season and returning to the six
return services for the summer period.”
“Rex has responded to approaches from the local community and particularly the Snowy
Mountains Airport Corporation, a consortium of local business people who have banded
together to acquire the airport, to introduce the service. We have worked closely with Kevin
Blyton and Ian Barry of Snowy Mountain Airport Corporation to design the schedule and
determine the seasonal timings for the service. We will also be working closely with the Ski and
Snowy tourism operators to offer fully inclusive packages to the area in both winter and
summer.”
“This association brings together parties with a direct interest in developing the winter and
summer tourist potential of the region. The air service will also provide a vital link for the region
and directly assist with the economic and social development of Cooma and the Snowy
Mountains region.
“We see this as another exciting chapter in Rex’s development and an opportunity to bring
Rex’s approach and commitment to another regional community”
Rex has applied to the relevant Government authorities to operate the service and
commencement is subject to those approvals. Mr Breust said that he did not consider there
were any impediments in Rex meeting all the requirements for approval.
“We have received positive support from both the State and Commonwealth Governments
for the initiative,” Mr Breust said.
Federal Member for Eden-Monaro, Gary Nairn, has welcomed the decision by Rex to
commence the new flight to this part of his electorate.
"I believe this is a wonderful opportunity for the Snowy Mountains region," Mr Nairn said.
"The new flight will open up even greater tourism opportunities in the Snowy Mountains. As a
regional service provider Rex is definitely doing its part to boost Australia's rural and regional
economy."

State Member for Monaro, Steve Whan said: "This is a great initiative from Rex. It will be a
welcome boost to the ski industry, local businesses and the community.
“Congratulations to Rex and the Snowy Mountains Airport Corporation. I look forward to seeing
the return of regular commercial flights to the Cooma Airport," Mr Whan said.
Fares will start from $129 one-way available at www.rex.com.au. Reservations can also be
