Albany

With a rich history as the area where the first European settlers entered Western Australia (WA) and where the first convoy of ANZACs departed for World War One, Albany welcomes all types of adventurers. It was once involved in the whaling industry with the Historic Whaling Station museum located in a former whaling station. By taking a short walk along one of Albany’s scenic trails, visitors can see the history of Albany through the colonial buildings, convict prisons, whaling ships, cottages and National Trust Residences. The whaling industry ended in 1978 creating a safe haven for whales and a perfect place for visitors to experience the rare opportunity to spot one of these majestic animals. A great place to spot whales is Torndirrup National Park where you can also explore the rugged granite coastline of the Indian Ocean.
