Whyalla

Whyalla is known as the place where the outback meets the sea. Home of the historic corvette The Whyalla, this town offers some of the nations best snapper fishing. South Australia’s second largest city, Whyalla, is located on the western shores of the upper Spencer Gulf. The town offers blue skies for most of the year as well as pristine beaches and beautiful scenery. Only a few hours away from the magnificent Flinders Ranges, Whyalla is a great basis for exploring this great brown land. Also a gateway to the Eyre Peninsula and a stop over centre for the east-west traveller, Whyalla is located by the sea on the coast of the beautiful Spencer Gulf. The region is known for its 2000 kilometres of ruggedly beautiful coastline, but vast desert plains, the Gawler Ranges and a hinterland of golden grain are a fascinating contrast to the towering cliffs and sandy bays of this coastal town. While in Whyalla, see the unique wildlife from whales to wedge-tail eagles. This is a perfect place to escape. Watch the Southern Right Whales at the Head of Bight, swim with dolphins and sea lions at Baird Bay or charter a yacht for the day. While you’re there, why not sleep under the stars in a wilderness national park, take a walk along a deserted beach or take the family fishing.
