Windorah

Named after the Aboriginal word meaning 'Big Fish' or 'place of large fish', Windorah is located in the southern west region of Queensland and is known as ‘the heart of the Channel Country’. Windorah’s main industry is sheep and cattle grazing due to its abundance of Mitchell Grass and other herbage. Travellers can spend their day fishing and bird watching at the 19 kilometre waterhole at Cooper Creek, take a scenic drive from town to Cooper Creek, take in the remarkable giant red sand hills, and explore the town’s ruins and historical sites.
Routes to Windorah are operated in conjunction with Queensland Government.
