Cunnamulla

Cunnamulla is located in south west Queensland and positioned on the beautiful banks of the Warrego River. It is the gateway to the Matilda Highway and is one of four towns in the Paroo Shire. The ‘Cunnamulla Fella’ is the town’s legend invented by Stan Coster and Slim Dusty in a song co-written and performed around Australia. The legend is celebrated with a large bronze sculpture of the ‘Cunnamulla Fella’ in the town centre and at the Cunnamulla Fella Centre Art Gallery and Museum. The Cunnamulla Fella is also the inspiration for a major event, the Cunnamulla Fella Festival, which is held annually in November. One of Cunnamulla’s major attractions is the Paroo Pioneer Pathways, which display the shire’s history and development. On the trails you will meet many of the friendly town locals, walk by the spectacular surrounding rivers, and discover opal mines. Other attractions include Currawinya National Park, Bowra Station, the historic Robbers Tree, Cunnamulla Heritage Trail, Allan Tannock weir, and the Artesian Time Tunnel. Apart from the Cunnamulla Fella Festival other town events include the Yowah Craft Day, Yowah Opal Festival, race days, the Cunnamulla Outback Masters Games, Wyandra Rodeo, the Cooper Creek to Cunnamulla Bike Ride, Wyandra Polocrosse, clay target shooting, Cunnamulla Sheep Show, Paroo Pony club reunion, polocrosse, and the PBR Australia Bull Ride.
Routes to Cunnamulla are operated in conjunction with Queensland Government.
