Mildura

Seen from the air, the Victorian regional city of Mildura is starkly an oasis, fanning out neatly from the mighty Murray River in a patchwork of vines and orchards. Beyond the greenery lies a fascinating world of semi-desert, mallee woodland, and dry land farming, but Mildura is foremost a river city. Tucked away high in Victoria’s northwest corner, Mildura is easily accessed by air and basks in a Mediterranean-type climate. Abundant sunshine and the constant of available water bring enormous prosperity to the region through agriculture and tourism. The town itself boasts a cosmopolitan feel with outdoor cafes, pubs, restaurants, and nightlife. Mall and plaza shopping, a cinema, and an outstanding regional art gallery afford the visitor ample opportunity to take a break from the sun! The Murray River provides a magnificent aquatic playground for boating enthusiasts, fishermen, and recreational swimmers, and boasts many small beaches shaded by towering red gums. The atmosphere of an historic past can be captured in the sedate comfort of a river cruise aboard a magnificent old paddle steamer. Sporting enthusiasts rate Mildura golf courses, stadiums, tennis courts, and the wave-pool complex amongst the best in the state, and motor sports fans get a great calendar of events. Winery tours, botanical gardens, and a wealth of natural and man-made attractions within easy drive make Mildura an ideal family holiday destination that comes pretty close to promising some great weather! Mildura is a treat for the senses. Renowned for it’s fresh local produce and array of wineries, Mildura is the perfect holiday destination for the gourmet lover. History buffs can take a look in Mungo National Park, where the world’s oldest homosapien remains, dating back over 40,000 years, were discovered.
