Rex Adds More Services to Port Lincoln in Wake of Qantas Pullout
Wednesday, June 28, 2006

Port Lincoln has had a bumper year in 2006 as Regional Express (Rex) today announces two more confirmed dates for additional services to the region. On top of the extra services introduced on 26 February and again on 22 May, Rex makes good its promise to ensure there will be enough capacity to satisfy demand after QantasLink’s withdrawal today. This good news also comes on a day when it celebrates 20 Years in Port Lincoln.

Starting 17 July Rex will operate an additional four return flights between Adelaide and Port Lincoln each week, providing an extra 272 seats for regional travellers. In less than a month, passengers will again enjoy another three return flights each week from 14 August.

Making the announcement, Rex Managing Director, Mr Geoff Breust said the additional frequencies on the weekends will bring the service to 96 weekly flights from 17 July, and on 14 August Rex will break the 100 mark by operating 102 flights between Adelaide and Port Lincoln every week.

From 17 July two extra services will depart Adelaide on Saturday at 11.35am and 4.15pm and return from Port Lincoln at 12.45pm and 5.25pm. Two extra services will also depart Adelaide on Sunday at 9.00am and 4.15pm and return from Port Lincoln at 10.10am and 5.25pm, providing a more consistent timetable seven days a week.

From 14 August Rex will introduce a new return service on Monday that departs Adelaide at 7.50am, returning from Port Lincoln at 9.00am. Two more return flights will be introduced on Friday, departing Adelaide at 3.45pm and 7.35pm, returning from Port Lincoln at 4.55pm and 8.45pm.

Rex continues to grow its fleet of Saab aircraft and currently has 26 in its fleet. Three more Saabs are being acquired over coming months. The aircraft are being used to upgrade services from 19 seat Metro 23 aircraft and additional services across the Rex network.

Mr Breust said it was Rex’s aim to become an all Saab operation.

Rex is South Australia’s largest regional airline operating services to Port Lincoln, Whyalla, Mount Gambier, Ceduna, Olympic Dam, Coober Pedy, Kingscote and Broken Hill. Rex is also Australia’s largest listed regional airline operating over 1,100 flights each week to 35 destinations.

Rex reminds all QantasLink passengers that their tickets will be accepted at face value for travel on Rex from 1 August. Any passengers who wish to take advantage of this offer should contact QantasLink to arrange the ticket transfer.
