Rex Celebrates Two Decades in South Australia Today
Wednesday, June 28, 2006

South Australia’s largest regional airline, Regional Express (Rex), today celebrates 20 years of service to the communities of Port Lincoln and Whyalla. Rex is honoured to fly the flag and continue the great legacy started by Kendell Airlines in 1986 to provide unrivalled service and affordable fares to our loyal customers.

To commemorate its 20th anniversary and thank the local communities of Port Lincoln, Whyalla and the Eyre Peninsula for their support, Rex Managing Director, Mr Geoff Breust, said Rex has been celebrating all month, though today is very special.

“Leading up to this day, Rex has provided special anniversary fares and flight giveaways. We have raised funds on board each flight for Greenhill Lodge (Cancer Council South Australia) and gave away a special memento to every passenger.”

“Today we cap off celebrations with special ceremonies in both Port Lincoln and Whyalla where we will be presenting plaques to the City of Port Lincoln, City of Whyalla and the District Council of the Lower Eyre Peninsula to honour this milestone and share the achievement.”

“Needless to say, we are delighted to have grown the Port Lincoln service dramatically from four return flights each week day to seven returns ferrying more than 99,000 passengers a year to and from Port Lincoln.”

In Whyalla, the service has increased from four return Metro services per day to four return Saab services carrying more than 45,000 passengers.”

“In an industry where operators come and go, to sustain a successful regional air service for 20 years is quite unique. It is testimony to the unwavering support we have had from the local community from day one. Today, we give back to the community our recognition for achieving this remarkable feat.”

“I pay a special tribute to Scott and Margaret Stenson and Mike and Leslie Scarman and all the staff at Travelworld Port Lincoln and its forerunner, West Coast Travel, for their incredible service and loyalty as the Rex and Kendell route agents in Port Lincoln.”

“In Whyalla we thank Don Milne and his former business partner, Don Rigante, and the staff at Travelworld Whyalla for their support and service over the 20 year period.”

And today, there will be more cause for celebration as Rex announces it will keep adding to its schedules between Port Lincoln and Adelaide introducing a further eight sectors per week on 17 July and an additional six sectors per week on 14 August.

Rex currently operates 88 weekly flights between Adelaide and Port Lincoln and 52 weekly flights between Adelaide and Whyalla.
