Rex Returns Air Services to West Wyalong
Monday, January 24, 2005

Regional Express (Rex), Australia’s largest independent regional airline today announced it will operate regular air services between West Wyalong and Sydney from 28 February thereby re-establishing airline services on the route.

The airline launched its new schedule with a charter flight aboard one of its 19-seat Metro 23’s which will operate the new service.
Rex will fly 3 times a week between West Wyalong and Sydney, with all direct flights operating Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Fares will start from $99 one-way available at www.rex.com.au or through travel agents.

Rex Managing Director Geoff Breust said the community of West Wyalong had waited nearly four years for the return of an airline and the wait was now over.

“Air services are a vital social and economic lifeline for regional communities and through a partnership between Rex, the Bland Shire Council and Barrick Gold Australia – we have been able to reinstate a regular service for not only the community of West Wyalong but also the surrounding region,” Mr Breust said.

West Wyalong Mayor David Bolte said this was a great day for West Wyalong after nearly four years without an air service.

“It is just wonderful to see Rex, a strong regional airline on the tarmac of our airport,” Cr Bolte said.

"We are very lucky as many regional communities have not been able to strike such a workable partnership that will support local industry, strengthen our economy and re-establish a key service.“
“With fares as low as $99 Rex has brought us a real alternative to the long drive to Sydney. We urge the local community to support this great initiative,” Mr Bolte said.
